Emergency Pumping Mission During the Nari Typhoon in 2001
Do people in Taipei still remember the flooded Taipei City on September 17th during Typhoon Nari?
On September 17th, 2001, Typhoon Nari brought heavy rain to Taipei. According to government data, the rainfall intensity was 425 mm/day, bringing the average floodwater depth to 211cm. Over 2/3 of Taipei city was severely flooded. Many places suffered from water outages and blackouts. In Greater Taipei, 5,129 building basements flooded, and mechanical equipment and cars were covered in water.
The heavy rain in the early morning of September 17th flooded the Taipei Main Station and all underground metro stations. The MRT lines and Taiwan Railway station were submerged, causing service suspension.
The government assigned national guards for the Taipei Main Station rescue mission and recruited HCP PUMP with portable pumps to join the national guard. On September 18th, HCP PUMP commissioned 6 technicians with 12 high-head submersible pumps to join the most challenging assignment. The water, which occupied 4 floors beneath the ground, was finally pumped out of the station after 10 days. HCP PUMP received a certificate of appreciation in December afterward.
HCP PUMP is honored to join this rescue mission. HCP PUMP overcame the challenge with our professional pump technology, and Taiwan Railway and the MRT restored their service as soon as possible.
